MUTANTX is a committed collective event, which, by exploring its territory and its present, opens up to the elsewhere and to the future.
MUTANTX, the 2024 edition of the Biennale de l’Image Possible, is exceptional in many ways.
It takes place in an extraordinary location: the former provincial library of Les Chiroux, 7,000 m2 of vast reading rooms, offices, storerooms and compactus, right in the heart of the city.
And it’s a collective event : with the team from Liège’s Les Chiroux cultural center, and thanks to the support and expertise of Comptoir des Ressources Créatives, 13 (lucky number?) artistic partners have decided to join forces with us to breathe plural, polyphonic life into this immense disused glass and concrete building.
Our MUTANTX partners, assisted by Comptoir des Ressources Créatives, are :
Le Musée en Plein Air du Sart-Tilman
Les Résidences-Ateliers Vivegnis International (RAVI)
Art au Centre et l’asbl Mouvement sans titre
La Châtaigneraie – Centre Wallon d’Art Contemporain (CWAC)
Le Botanique – Centre culturel de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles
Saint-Luc Liège – Ecole supérieure des arts (avec le Musée de la vie wallonne)
Académie royale des beaux-arts de Liège – ESAHR
MUTANTX deploys an artistic program that combines, on the one hand, happy reinvention and flamboyant exploration of the doubts, ambiguities and uncertainties that run through us, and on the other, documentary approaches and testimonies to stubborn resistance.
Around the main exhibition, the Archipelago reinforces the initial collaborative proposal by offering some thirty additional exhibitions, large and small, throughout the city and beyond. A program of events (screenings, meetings, thematic weekends), artistic residencies in partnership with Belgian and international structures in addition to hosting groups of art students from all over Europe, and not forgetting the ephemeral but already mythical Club Volupté for the party program.
This collective dynamic enables us to artistically occupy the premises and the city, to re-enchant them, to open them up to the publics, who will also be invited to bring them to life, to participate, to ask questions about the future of the building and the city, which is undergoing radical change, and perhaps even to test the hypothesis that they could be part of the solution…
All BIP’s partners bring their own specificities and perspectives to contemporary artistic creation, making this Biennale de l’Image Possible a tremendous laboratory of combined and complementary energies.
